Brae-Burn Farm is a local family farm located on the outskirts of Pittsboro. The farm was started over fifteen years ago by Wayne Thorn as just a family garden. However, in the last seven years it has increased in production size each season enabling us to spread our produce out into the community. Wayne has joined forces with his son, Adrian Thorn to make the garden into the size it is today.
Our main crop is heirloom tomatoes, but we also grow a variety of other seasonal produce as well. In 2014, we planted over 2,000 varieties of tomato plants. In 2015, we hope to exceed that number.
We also have multiple Nut trees on the property as well as fruit trees that we pick from.
I think that it is important to add that we are an organic farm, we are not certified organic, but during the life of this farm to the beginning, there has never been use of chemical fertilizers or harmful herbicides.
Currently we sell to restaurants in Pittsboro, Chapel Hill, Durham and Apex.
This year we are embarking on a new adventure with bees. We will be adding two Honey Bee hives to the farm. When available, we hope to add honey to the list of things we sell.
